The Symptoms of Chlamydia
Many people have no obvious Chlamydia symptoms. However, 25% of women (1 in 4) and 50% of men (half) do develop symptoms which can show 1-3 weeks after coming into contact with Chlamydia or sometimes many months later. It's important to get screened, even if you feel fine and have no symptoms - just to make sure.
If you do get Chlamydia symptoms you might notice:
In women
- unusual vaginal discharge
- pain and/or burning when peeing
- pain during and/or after sex
- bleeding after sex or between periods
- lower abdominal pain (pain in the lower belly)
In men
- a discharge from the tip of the penis
- pain and/or burning when weeing
- irritation at the tip of the penis
- painful swelling of the testicles
